Job summary

Aurecon Group is seeking an Electrical Substation Engineer to contribute to major transmission and distribution projects in New Zealand and Australia. You will prepare calculations, reports and design documentation with guidance and coordinate with drafters to ensure quality outputs.

Join a team delivering significant substation refurbishments and new-builds across the region, building technical and client-facing capabilities while leveraging standards from IEC, IEEE and AS/NZS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in electrical engineering or Power systems.
• 3–4 years of practical HV substation design experience.
• Experience with cable sizing, busbar sizing, secondary & controls, Protection, and substation layouts.
• Familiarity with IEC, IEEE and AS/NZS standards.

Electrical Substation Engineer - Transmission and Distribution

As an Electrical Substation Engineer in our Transmission and Distribution team, you’ll contribute to projects and programs that make a real difference and be part of a team that embraces challenges, welcomes diverse ideas, and engineer solutions with people and outcomes in mind. Join a team delivering some of the most significant substation, transmission and energy infrastructure projects across New Zealand and Australia, with opportunities spanning grid infrastructure, major industrial developments and data centres. Contribute to major substation refurbishment and new-build projects across New Zealand.

Prepare design calculations, reports, specifications and design documentation with senior guidance. Coordinate with drafters and complete initial quality checks. Gain exposure to Australian energy infrastructure and data centre projects. Build your technical, design review and client-facing capability.

What you’ll bring

• Relevant electrical engineering qualifications (bachelor’s degree in electrical, Power systems, etc.)
• Around three to four years’ practical high voltage substation design experience in either Primary, secondary or Protection design.
• Experience with cable sizing, busbar sizing, secondary & controls, Protection, and substation layouts
• Familiarity with relevant IEC, IEEE and AS/NZS standards
• The ability to deliver quality work with direction, without requiring day-to-day supervision
