Job summary

Central Otago District Council’s Cromwell Pool team is looking for a friendly lifeguard to keep customers safe while delivering a welcoming experience. You’ll be part of a busy aquatics team that covers lifeguarding, customer service, Learn to Swim and community-focused programmes.

This rostered role requires morning and evening shifts, weekends and public holidays. Training is provided; previous lifeguarding experience is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Lifeguarding or aquatics experience is advantageous; training provided.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Willing to learn and complete required training.

Responsibilities

• Lifeguard and supervise pool users.
• Provide friendly and professional customer service.
• Respond to emergencies following health and safety procedures.
• Complete water testing and maintain pool cleanliness.
• Assist with reception, admissions and enquiries.
• Support Learn to Swim and other aquatics programmes.
• Complete opening, closing and general operational duties.
• Work with the Aquatics team to ensure safe operations.
• Report to the Aquatics Operations Manager and Cromwell Pool Supervisors.
• Rostered shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays.

Job Description

As a member of our Cromwell Pool team, you’ll play an important role in keeping our customers safe while providing a friendly and welcoming experience. You’ll be part of a busy aquatics team that delivers lifeguarding, customer service, Learn to Swim and community-focused programmes.

Key Responsibilities

• Key responsibilities include:
• Actively lifeguard and supervise pool users.
• Provide friendly and professional customer service.
• Respond to emergencies and follow all health and safety procedures.
• Complete water testing and maintain high standards of pool cleanliness.
• Assist with reception, admissions and general pool enquiries.
• Support Learn to Swim and other aquatics programmes.
• Complete opening, closing and general operational duties.
• Work collaboratively with the wider Aquatics team to ensure the facility operates safely and effectively.
• Report to the Aquatics Operations Manager and work closely with the Cromwell Pool Supervisors and wider pool team.
• This is a rostered role, and applicants must be available to work a range of morning and evening shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

• Have a positive, friendly and reliable attitude.
• Enjoy working with people and being part of a team.
• Have good communication and customer service skills.
• Are confident working around water and with the public.
• Can remain calm and focused in busy situations.
• Have a practical, hands-on approach.
• Are willing to learn and complete the required training.
• Previous lifeguarding or aquatics experience is an advantage, but full training will be provided.
