Job summary

Salt in Hamilton is seeking a Platform Specialist (Application support & Site Reliability) to lead both modernisation and ongoing support of web and desktop apps. The role combines 70% Application Specialist and 30% Site Reliability Engineer, with long-term move to 50/50. Onsite initially, relocation considered with potential for 1 day work-from-home after ramp-up.

You will join a small team working with data engineers and wider tech groups to keep end users happy and systems reliable.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in application support for web and desktop apps.
• Site Reliability Engineer background or equivalent experience.
• Familiarity with AWS and Windows server environments.
• Basic SQL experience and scripting (Python/PowerShell).

Responsibilities

• Support incident response, troubleshooting, and on-call rotations.
• Contribute to capacity planning, performance tuning, and DR/BC planning.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to build reliability into solutions from the outset.
• Communicate with end users and stakeholders to resolve issues.

Platform Specialist (Application support & Site Reliability)

• THE ROLE:
• Reporting to the Delivery Lead, working in a team of 3 platform Specialist, 2data engineers. Other key stakeholders include the wider technology team, separate cloud teams, platform teams, development teams and finally Hamilton based end users (need to keep them happy, talk to them understand their problems and troubleshoot them).
• The role is basically Application Specialist (70%) & Site Reliability Engineer (30%) to start off finally leading to 50-50% in the long run. Will be working towards supporting modern as well as legacy platforms and work towards modernisation of the same. Support and maintain technology platforms and applications support (web & desktop applications).
• Support incident response, troubleshooting, recovery, and post-incident reviews.
• Contribute to capacity planning, performance optimisation, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to build reliability and operability into solutions from the outset.
• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive operational activities to reduce manual effort and human error
• Participating in appropriate on-call or operational support arrangements for critical services. Will be working on a rostering basis, with the possibility of on call payout in future.
• Onsite position , given the stakeholders work in a 24/7 environment ; hence, should be based out of Hamilton or okay to relocate. However, after several months, there is a possibility of 1day Work from home.
• THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
• Good experience in APPLICATION SUPPORT (web & desktop) and SITE RELIABILITY engineer. Will be looking after lots of Modern as well as legacy applications.
• Experience with support for Web and Desktop applications, Windows server.
• Based in Hamilton
• Familiarity with AWS.
• Basic SQL experience.
• Some scripting experience with any language (Python/ Powershell).
• Good stakeholder / end user management experience. Good oral and written communication & coordination skillsets. Good with people.
• Exposure to Disaster recovery, backup, business continuity.
• Strong documentation skills for L1 TO L3 support teams.
• Any industry domain welcome - Utilities, Telecom, Banking preferred.
• Good to have: Linux, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Splunk.
