Job summary

Comspek International is seeking a Platform Engineering Lead to define and execute a modern platform strategy while leading a high-performing engineering team in Wellington. You will shape the tools, platforms, and practices that underpin software delivery across growing client engagements.

You will drive CI/CD, automation, IaC, observability, and SRE, enabling development teams to deploy securely with guardrails while adopting AI-assisted development in a cloud-native environment.

We're looking for aPlatform Engineering Lead to define and execute a modern platform engineering strategy while leading a high-performing team of engineers. This is a pivotal leadership role where you'll shape the tools, platforms, processes, and practices that underpin software delivery across a growing technology organisation.

What You'll Be Doing

• Define and lead the Platform Engineering strategy, road-map, standards, and technical direction.
• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Platform Engineering team.
• Build and enhance scalable, self-service development platforms and automation.
• Improve CI/CD, deployment automation, infrastructure management, and developer tooling.
• Drive improvements across observability, reliability, incident response, and operational excellence.
• Partner with technology leaders to optimise the software development lifecycle.
• Champion infrastructure-as-code and modern cloud-native practices.
• Enable development teams to independently deploy, monitor, and operate their services within established guardrails.
• Establish practical and secure approaches for AI-assisted software development.
• Measure and improve platform adoption, developer experience, and delivery performance.

What You'll Bring

• Experience leading and developing engineering teams.
• Strong background managing cloud infrastructure and internal engineering platforms.
• Expertise in CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, infrastructure as code, and environment management.
• Solid understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), observability, incident management, and capacity planning.
• Experience implementing automated testing and performance testing frameworks.
• Knowledge of secure software development practices and governance.
• Familiarity with modern AI-assisted development tooling and its effective adoption.
• Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning skills.
• A passion for continuous improvement and developer enablement.
