Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Christchurch is seeking an experienced Payroll Technical and Compliance Specialist to provide technical expertise across payroll systems, configuration changes and legislative compliance. You will ensure payroll changes are thoroughly tested, validated and compliant, delivering accurate and timely payments.

Qualifications

• Experience with payroll systems testing, data validation and reconciliations.
• Knowledge of holidays legislation (Holidays Act 2003) and related payroll compliance.
• Ability to analyse complex payroll data and resolve issues.

Responsibilities

• Provide assurance that payroll system configuration changes comply with employment, tax and payroll legislation.
• Oversee testing, QA and documentation validation for payroll system changes.
• Monitor payroll data integrity across PSe, Leader and Workforce Dimensions (WFD).
• Develop, review and validate payroll exception reports and pay-cycle checks.
• Ensure controls to minimise payroll errors, detect potential fraud and manage compliance risks.
• Support Holidays Act 2003 compliance reconciliations and explain outcomes to employees and payroll teams.
• Provide technical advice and resolve complex payroll system and data issues.
• Review payroll procedures and manuals and deliver training to strengthen team capability.
• Identify opportunities to automate processes and improve system functionality.
• Liaise with system vendors and stakeholders to resolve issues and support ongoing improvements.
