Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking a Payroll Technical and Compliance Specialist to provide expert technical leadership across payroll systems, configurations, testing and legislative compliance. You will ensure changes are validated and compliant and support process improvements through automation.

You will work with Payroll Systems and People and Culture teams to maintain data integrity, resolve complex issues and deliver accurate, timely payments.

Qualifications

• Graduate or postgraduate IT qualification.
• Five years' payroll experience in a large, complex environment.
• Strong understanding of payroll legislation ( Holidays Act 2003, Wages Protection Act, Parental Leave and Employment Protection Act).
• Strong Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills.
• Excellent communication and ability to explain technical matters clearly.

Responsibilities

• Provide assurance that payroll system configuration changes comply with employment, tax and payroll legislation.
• Oversee testing, QA and documentation validation for payroll system changes.
• Monitor payroll data integrity across PSe, Leader and Workforce Dimensions (WFD).
• Develop, review and validate payroll exception reports and pay-cycle checks.
• Ensure controls to minimise payroll errors, detect fraud and manage compliance risks.
