Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Wellington seeks a Payroll Support Lead to lead a team of eight payroll professionals, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll services. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will oversee pay runs, structure changes, transfers, reconciliations, third-party payments, and IR filings in a large, complex environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive leadership experience overseeing payroll teams.
• 10+ years of New Zealand payroll experience.
• 5+ years in a large, complex payroll environment.
• Advanced knowledge of payroll legislation including NZ Acts.
• Experience leading operational excellence, quality assurance and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of payroll specialists and administrators.
• Oversee pay run processing and organisational structure maintenance.
• Manage employee transfers, leave buy-outs, reconciliations, and third-party payments.
• Ensure payroll compliance, audits, and reporting (IR filing).
• Drive process improvements and enhance payroll service delivery.
