Job summary

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children seeks Residential Night Attendants to provide care and support for young people in our care overnight. You will foster a safe, secure environment and help youths make positive choices.

Role requires a current full driver’s licence, vetting under the Children’s Act, and NZ citizenship or residency. The position is based in Epuni, Lower Hutt, with rosters across weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Full, clean, valid driver’s licence.
• Meet the Children’s Act safety checking and vetting requirements.
• New Zealand citizenship or residency.
• Resilience, initiative and a proactive approach.
• Empathy, patience and ability to see past what someone may be struggling with.
• Experience working with rangatahi and tamariki.
• Strong team player and role model.
• Sound judgement and risk management.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Understanding and confidence in tikanga Māori and te reo Māori a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide care and support to young people in our care during the night.
• Encourage and motivate positive choices while ensuring a safe, secure overnight environment.
• Work as part of a team to manage risk and respond to incidents.
