Job summary

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children is seeking Residential Night Attendants to care for and support young people in our care during the night. You will help them stay safe and make positive choices in a secure overnight setting.

Shifts run from 10:00pm to 6:30am, with rosters covering weekdays, weekends and public holidays, and a 30% penal rate applies for awake night work. The role requires a full, clean driver’s license, NZ citizenship or residency, and a compassionate, resilient approach.

Our Residential Night Attendants have an important role to play. They provide care and support to the young people in our care and encourage and motivate them to make positive choices while providing a safe and secure environment overnight. We make a positive difference in young people's lives and get to see some of the results from our efforts firsthand - and that reward is pretty hard to beat! Our start times are 10.00pm - 6.30am, rosters consist of both weekdays, weekends and public holidays. A penal rate of 30% in addition to annual salary is applied due to it being a rostered position.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

• A full, clean, valid driver's licence
• Meet the Children's Act safety checking and our vetting requirements
• New Zealand citizenship or residency
• Resilience, initiative and a proactive approach with a positive outlook
• Empathy, patience and ability to see past what someone may be struggling with
• Experience working with rangatahi and tamariki
• Strong team player and role model
• Sound judgement with the ability to manage risk and make tough decisions
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Understanding and confidence in tikanga Māori and te reo Māori would be a definite advantage
