Job summary

Oranga Tamariki is seeking a Residential Night Attendant at Epuni Care and Protection Residence in Lower Hutt. You will provide care and support to young people, encouraging positive choices while maintaining a safe overnight environment.

Shifts run 10.00pm–6.30am, with rosters including weekdays, weekends and public holidays. A full, clean driver’s licence, safety checks, and NZ residency are required. Remuneration is competitive with a 30% penal allowance for night shifts.

Qualifications

• Full, clean, valid driver's licence.
• Meet the Children's Act safety checking and vetting requirements.
• New Zealand citizenship or residency.
• Resilience, initiative and a proactive approach with a positive outlook.
• Empathy, patience and ability to see past what someone may be struggling with.
• Experience working with rangatahi and tamariki.
• Strong team player and role model.
• Sound judgement with the ability to manage risk and make tough decisions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Understanding and confidence in tikanga Māori and te reo Māori would be a definite advantage.

Responsibilities

• Provide care and support to the young people in our care and encourage and motivate them to make positive choices while providing a safe and secure environment overnight.
• Manage overnight rosters and ensure safety and wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi.
