Job summary

Wakatipu High School in Queenstown is seeking a specialist teacher aide for a permanent term-time position starting in Term 4, 2026. The role is 31 hours 15 minutes per week, 08:45 to 15:30 with a 30-minute unpaid break, Monday to Friday.

You will work with students in one-to-one or small group settings, especially those funded by the Ongoing Resourcing Scheme (ORS), assisting with learning, behaviour strategies and social skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out learning activities with a student.
• With the classroom teacher, apply strategies to manage behaviour.

• For students with health or physical needs, assist with tasks like medications, feeding, toileting, movement and record-keeping as required.
• Other reasonably requested duties as required.

Wakatipu High School is seeking a specialist teacher aide for a permanent position commencing on Term 4 2026. This role is 31 hours 15 minutes per week, 0845 to 1530 including a 30 minute unpaid break, Monday to Friday, term-time only. Every second week there is an additional paid hour meeting.
The position requires an outgoing, caring individual who is happy to work with students (in one-to-one situations or in small groups) within or alongside the mainstream class.
This role will primarily be working closely with students funded by the Ongoing Resourcing Scheme (ORS), which provides support for students with the highest ongoing levels of need to enable them to attend school, join in and learn alongside other students at school.
The Successful Candidate Will Need To

• Carry out learning activities with a student
• With the classroom teacher, use agreed strategies to manage student’s behaviour
• Work with the student and other students to boost learning, independence and social skills
• Take over full classroom management duties on occasion to allow the classroom teacher to work directly with the nominated student
• For students with special health or physical needs, assist with tasks like medications, feeding, toileting, moving around the school and keeping records of these things where required
• Other reasonably requested duties as required

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience of working with and implementing programmes for students with special needs as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Pay rate will be as per the Support Staff in Schools' Collective Agreement at the Teacher Aide Salary Scale Grade BC4 $29.57 per hour plus any applicable allowances.
