Job summary

Mercury NZ in Rotorua is seeking a visionary leader to head a team of six process and optimisation engineers, driving improvements across generation assets and sites. You will improve production forecasting, close performance gaps and deliver value through optimisation projects that boost operability, reliability and asset value.

Reporting to the Head of Strategy - Generation, this role connects site operations, asset management, engineering, projects, technology, finance and wholesale teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
• Minimum of five years leading technical teams in operations/engineering management.
• Track record of delivering process improvement or optimisation projects with measurable value.

Responsibilities

• Lead six engineers to provide day-to-day site process support and value-enhancing projects.
• Improve accuracy of production capacity forecasts and related performance tracking.
• Prioritise and develop projects addressing generation performance opportunities for measurable value.
• Advance automated surveillance to identify changes in plant performance earlier.
• Build relationships across operational sites and business teams.
• Present technical/financial information clearly to senior leaders.
• Provide visible safety leadership on and offsite.

Tā mātou arawātea | Our Opportunity:

This is an opportunity to lead the team responsible for improving the performance and value of Mercury’s generation assets across multiple sites.

You’ll lead six process and optimisation engineers, providing the direction, support and technical leadership they need to deliver meaningful improvements. Together, you’ll strengthen production forecasting, identify opportunities to close performance gaps and lead optimisation projects that improve asset operability, reliability and value.

Reporting to the Head of Strategy - Generation, you’ll be a key link between site operations, asset management, engineering, projects, technology, finance and wholesale teams. This is a Rotorua-based role for a leader who can connect technical insight with commercial outcomes and bring people together around shared priorities.

• Lead, develop and provide strategic direction to a team of six engineers responsible day to day site process support and value enhancing projects and initiatives
• Improve the accuracy of production capacity forecasts, outage allowances and resulting performance tracking and reporting
• Support the prioritisation and development of projects that address generation performance opportunities delivering measurable value
• Advance automated surveillance to identify changes in plant performance earlier and support timely action
• Build strong relationships and alignment across operational sites and business teams
• Present technical and business information clearly to senior leaders and other stakeholders
• Provide visible safety leadership in the office and while onsite

Tā mātou e kimi nei | We are looking for:

• A bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations management, business administration or a related field
• At least five years’ experience leading technical teams in operations, engineering management or a related environment
• A proven record of delivering process improvement or optimisation projects that create measurable value
• Strong commercial judgement, analytical capability and business planning experience
• The ability to influence change and build agreement across organisational boundaries
• A collaborative leadership style and commitment to developing others
