Job summary

Babcock New Zealand is seeking an Operational Defect Coordinator to support the Royal New Zealand Navy by coordinating defect rectification, contractor engagement, and repair planning. Your role will directly influence fleet availability and mission readiness in a fast-paced environment.

You will work alongside defence, engineering, and maintenance professionals, leveraging your organisational skills and attention to detail to manage competing priorities, ensure safety, and document quality

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification or equivalent experience in Project Management, Engineering, Maintenance, or Technical Operations.
  • Minimum two years' experience in a project coordination, maintenance coordination, or engineering support role
  • Experience working within a naval, defence, maritime, engineering, or maintenance environment
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a NZ Defence Security Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate defect rectification and defect tracking to support fleet availability.
  • Engage with contractors and stakeholders to plan and schedule maintenance activities.
  • Plan repairs and maintenance to ensure high quality standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Review technical documents and manage related administration and cost controls

About you

You are an organised and proactive coordinator who thrives in technically complex environments. You have experience managing multiple priorities, engaging with contractors and stakeholders, and ensuring work is delivered to high quality standards. Ideally, you've worked within defence, maritime, engineering, or maintenance operations and understand the importance of compliance, safety, and documentation. You communicate confidently with both technical and non-technical audiences, enjoy solving problems, and take pride in delivering outcomes that support operational readiness and customer success.
