Job summary

Babcock Australasia seeks a skilled Supportability Engineer to join the Engineering Change team in Devonport, Auckland. You will help ensure naval assets remain reliable, maintainable, and operational throughout their lifecycle.

As an Integrated Product Support practitioner, you’ll influence maintenance strategies, spares, technical publication development, and reliability improvements across projects with genuine defence impact.

Qualifications

  • Technical vocational qualification or certificate in Engineering, Logistics, Asset Management, or a related discipline.
  • Eligibility for membership of a recognised engineering or technical professional body.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain NZ Defence Security Clearance.

Babcock is looking for a Supportability (IPS) Engineer to join the Engineering Change team based in Devonport, Auckland.

About the role

Join a team supporting some of New Zealand's most critical naval capabilities. As an Integrated Product Support (IPS) Practitioner, you'll play a pivotal role ensuring defence assets remain reliable, maintainable, and operational throughout their entire lifecycle. Working alongside engineering specialists, you'll influence equipment design, maintenance strategies, sparing solutions, technical documentation, and reliability improvements that directly support Royal New Zealand Navy operations.

This is an opportunity to build your expertise across the full spectrum of supportability engineering, including reliability analysis, FMEA/FMECA, LORA, NATO codification, and asset sustainment. You'll work on complex maritime systems, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to projects that have genuine operational impact. About you

You are a technically capable supportability or logistics engineering professional with experience in maritime, defence, or complex asset environments. You understand how reliability, maintainability, availability, and sparing contribute to operational success and enjoy using data to solve engineering challenges. You can confidently interpret technical documentation, conduct analysis, and engage with stakeholders across multiple disciplines. You're proactive, detail‑oriented, and committed to delivering practical, cost‑effective support solutions while maintaining compliance with naval, defence, and engineering standards.

You will have knowledge of / familiarisation with
  • Integrated Product Support (IPS) and supportability engineering.
  • FMEA, FMECA, and LORA analysis and development.
  • Reliability engineering and RAM analysis.
  • Availability, Maintainability and Supportability assessment.
  • NATO Codification and NSN management.
  • Technical documentation and publication development.
  • Interpretation of engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Naval asset management systems and maintenance planning
Key Required Qualifications
  • Technical vocational qualification or certificate in Engineering, Logistics, Asset Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working as an IPS Practitioner, Supportability Engineer, or Logistics Engineer.
  • Eligibility for membership of a recognised engineering or technical professional body.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain the required New Zealand Defence Security Clearance.
