Job summary

Bidfood Waipapa in Kerikeri, NZ is seeking a motivated Nightshift Team Leader (2IC) to support the Nightshift Manager in overseeing nightshift picking, packing, and loading activities, including admin tasks. You will lead by example on the floor and coordinate operations when the Manager is unavailable.

Qualifications

• Previous warehouse supervisory experience is preferred.
• Experience with picking/packing/dispatch processes.
• Forklift license or experience is advantageous.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate nightly warehouse operations with the Nightshift Manager.
• Support continuous improvement to boost efficiency and accuracy.
• Ensure orders are picked, packed and loaded accurately and on time.
• Identify issues and provide practical solutions on the floor.
• Lead and support team to meet productivity and service targets.
• Provide guidance, training and onboarding for new staff.
• Act as second-in-charge and cover leadership when required.
• Promote safety and a strong safety culture on nightshift.

Bidfood Waipapa is looking for a motivated, reliable, and hands-on Nightshift Team Leader (2IC) to support our Nightshift Manager and help drive efficient warehouse operations.

About the Role

As the Nightshift Team Leader (2IC), you will assist the Nightshift Manager in overseeing the smooth operation of our nightshift picking, packing, and loading activities including admin work. You will lead by example, support the team on the floor, and step up to coordinate operations when the Manager is unavailable.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Support

• Assist the Nightshift Manager in coordinating nightly warehouse operations.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and accuracy.
• Help ensure all orders are picked, packed, and loaded accurately and on time.
• Identify and elevate operational issues while contributing practical solutions.
• Work alongside the team to meet productivity and service targets.

Customer Service Focus

• Ensure customer orders are picked accurately and efficiently.
• Assist with the safe and effective loading of delivery vehicles.
• Help ensure vehicles are dispatched on schedule to meet customer expectations.
• Support and motivate the nightshift team to achieve high performance.
• Provide guidance and assistance to team members during shifts.
• Help train and onboard new employees.
• Promote a positive, accountable, and team-focused culture.
• Act as second-in-charge and provide leadership cover when required.

Staffing & Security

• Assist with managing workflow and labour allocation throughout the shift.
• Support the maintenance of building, stock, and asset security.
• Report staffing or operational concerns to the Nightshift Manager.
• Assist with team briefings and communication of nightly priorities.
• Work closely with other departments to ensure smooth operations.
• Encourage teamwork and effective communication across the business.

Health & Safety

• Lead by example in maintaining a safe workplace.
• Ensure team members follow all health and safety procedures.
• Report hazards, incidents, and opportunities for improving workplace safety.
• Support the Nightshift Manager in promoting a strong safety culture.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience in a warehouse, logistics, or distribution environment.
• Previous experience in a supervisory, leading hand, or senior warehouse role preferred.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Forklift experience (licence preferred).
• Confidence using warehouse management and computer systems.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate and support team members.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• A positive, proactive, and reliable approach.
• Flexibility and commitment to working nightshift hours.

Previous experience in a fast-paced, time-critical warehouse environment will be highly regarded.
