About the role
You will turn our operating requirements into reliable applications and take a hands on role in technical design, coding, testing, deployment, documentation and ongoing improvement.
Our planned 2027 stage covers store ordering, supplier purchasing, inventory visibility and Xero invoicing. The planned 2028 stage adds store POS, payment provider integration, website ordering, sales reporting and monthly royalty calculations. You will work with head office, finance, store teams and external providers to deliver the programme in agreed stages.
What you will do
- Analyse head office and store processes, identify limitations in existing systems, and translate business needs into technical specifications, data models, workflow designs and an estimated development backlog.
- Design, write, maintain and improve application code for a store ordering portal, product catalogue, supplier purchase orders and inventory movements across authorised locations.
- Build secure, usable web interfaces and backend services with role based access, approval workflows, validation and auditable transaction records.
- Develop and maintain Xero integration for store invoices, invoice delivery, payment status and accounting exceptions, using reliable authentication, duplicate prevention and recovery processes.
- Assess supplier interfaces and implement approved API or file based connections where technically and commercially feasible.
- Develop the next stage of POS and online ordering, including supported payment integrations, transaction records, daily store sales and royalty reporting based on approved business rules.
- Write and run appropriate tests; diagnose and correct defects; verify data accuracy, access controls, performance and recovery before releases.
- Manage source control and deployment processes, monitor application health and maintain technical documentation, operating procedures and user guidance. Support training and production issues within agreed arrangements.
- Advise management on technical options, development estimates, software and integration costs, risks and priorities; work with independent reviewers and providers where specialist support is required.
What you will bring
- At least five years of relevant software or systems development experience, with evidence of designing, building, testing and supporting production applications.
- Strong practical ability in an established backend language and framework, modern web development, relational databases, SQL and transaction based data modelling.
- Experience building and consuming APIs, including authentication, validation, error handling, asynchronous processing, retries and reconciliation.
- Sound use of version control, automated testing, deployment pipelines, cloud services, application monitoring and secure development practices.
- Proven ability to talk directly with front-line users and diverse business teams to extract clear technical specifications from informal processes.
- Strong experience in managing development lifecycles, project scheduling, and setting realistic software delivery timelines independently
- Proven capability to independently make sound architectural decisions and choose appropriate technologies based on business scalability and timeline constraints.
Experience that would be an advantage
- Xero or other accounting integrations; purchasing and inventory applications; retail, hospitality, franchise or multi site systems; POS, payment terminal or online checkout integrations; and delivery of systems used in more than one country.
A relevant degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology or a related discipline would be beneficial.
