Job summary

Winstone Wallboards, a leading New Zealand manufacturer, is seeking a Mechanical Team Leader at the Tauriko plant. You will lead the maintenance trades team, ensuring preventative and reactive maintenance is delivered safely and efficiently while driving reliability across high-volume operations.

The role is hands-on with about half your time on the tools and half coordinating work, prioritising activities, and supporting the team to improve equipment performance.

Qualifications

• Trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter or equivalent.
• Experience in manufacturing/industrial/heavy plant environments.
• Leadership experience or readiness for Team Leader role.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving under pressure.
• Ability to prioritise work, coordinate resources and manage competing demands.
• Collaborative leadership with good communication and relationships.
• Committed to high safety standards and leading by example.
• Familiar with CMMS and MS Office tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical maintenance trades team.
• Deliver preventative, planned and reactive maintenance safely and efficiently.

• Foster a strong safety and continuous improvement culture.

About the Role

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you'll provide frontline leadership to our Mechanical maintenance trades team, ensuring preventative, planned and reactive maintenance activities are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard across the site. This is a hands‑on leadership role, with approximately 50% of your time spent on the tools and 50% coordinating work, supporting the team and driving plant reliability. You'll play a key role in prioritising maintenance activities, improving equipment performance and fostering a strong safety and continuous improvement culture.

About You

• Trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter or relevant trade background.
• Proven experience in a manufacturing, industrial or heavy plant environment.
• Proven leadership experience or ready to take the next step into a Team Leader role.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Able to prioritise work, coordinate resources and manage competing demands.
• A collaborative leader with effective communication skills and who can build strong relationships.
• Committed to maintaining high safety standards and leading by example.
• Experienced MEX (CMMS) user and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite.
