Job description

Southern Discoveries has been showcasing Milford Sound to our guests for over 70 years. We offer cruises, coaches, small group travel, and Queenstown wine tours, and are passionate about delivering outstanding experiences. As our business continues to grow, we have an opportunity for r a Marketing Manager to join our Head Office team to ensure the world hears about our products.

The role

You are the operational hub in role in our marketing team, reporting to the General Manager Marketing. You will help shape the marketing plan, and contribute to the strategy, brand direction, and budget set by the GM. Then you make it happen!

Day to day that means:

  • Running the marketing calendar and getting campaigns, promotions, and product launches live – on time, on brand and with every detail right
  • Being the working contact for our paid media, digital, creative and web agencies: briefs, timelines, feedback, and approvals
  • Owning the relationship with our photographers, videographers, signage, and print suppliers, and running our shoots from shot list to finished asset
  • Looking after our websites with our digital partner, and leading the rebuild and booking-experience projects
  • Writing and editing copy to our tone of voice, and signing it off before it goes out
  • Day-to-day PR coordination with our PR agency: media famils, awards submissions and partner content
  • Pulling together the monthly marketing data and spotting what's moving
  • Giving our Marketing Executive, Sales & Marketing Coordinator and Content Creator clear day-to-day direction and ensuring consistently high-quality outputs.
About you

You love being hands-on. You take a brief and get it done, and you notice when a price, a product name or a comma is wrong. You've spent at least five years in marketing, two or more of them delivering campaigns from brief to live, and you've managed agencies and suppliers to deadline and budget. You can read a GA4 or paid media report and know what it's telling you – our agencies run the digital marketing, you make sure they’re doing their job You are skilled at organising organised shoot, print or signage production, and you write great copy.

You're confident with agencies and colleagues, agile and solutions-focused when the weather or the operation changes the plan (and in Fiordland it definitely will!), and you're a genuine partner to a strategic lead. You bring ideas and energy, push back when something isn't right, and get behind the decision once it's made.

Tourism or destination marketing experience and knowledge of Queenstown and Fiordland would be a distinct advantage. A full, clean driver's licence and a willingness to do the early starts for shoots is a must. Whilst the role is primarily Monday to Friday office hours, occasional weekend and overnight stays in Milford Sound will be required.

Why Southern Discoveries

An iconic brand , a small team whose decisions count, with some one of the most famous landmarks on earth as your subject matter. Based in Queenstown, with regular time in Milford Sound and Te Anau.
