Job summary

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand invites a seasoned technology leader to assume the Manager Strategy and Emerging Technology role. You will shape the bank's technology strategy, lead architecture governance and roadmaps, and steer AI and other emerging technologies to deliver strategic outcomes.

You will champion new tech across the bank, guide Payments Modernisation, engage senior stakeholders, and build a high-performance culture.

Qualifications

• Significant senior technology leadership experience, including enterprise architecture, technology strategy, and portfolio management.
• Strong knowledge of emerging technologies, digital assets, payments, cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and their interaction with modern financial systems.
• Proven experience with AI.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, lead high-performing teams, and translate complex technology opportunities into business value.
• Strong leadership skills with a focus on building a sustainable high-performance culture.

• Take a lead role in the way that Artificial Intelligence is further deployed and utilised across the Bank and provide thought leadership into AI-enabled business transformation.
• Lead strategic technology initiatives, including providing technology leadership and expertise to the Payments Modernisation programme and the future of New Zealand's financial ecosystem.

Shape the future of technology at the Reserve Bank – Te Pūtea Matua Te tūranga –
As Manager Strategy and Emerging Technology, you'll shape the future of technology at the Reserve Bank, leading our approach to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies, elaborate our Technology, Data and Security strategy, support strategic projects across the Bank including Payments Modernisation and deliver innovation aligned with our strategic objectives and mandated outcomes.

In this influential leadership role, you'll:

• Drive RBNZ's technology strategy, leading our architecture practice, architecture and design governance, and technology roadmaps that enable the Bank's future ambitions.
• Identify and champion emerging technologies, assessing their potential to improve operations, enhance customer and colleague experiences, and deliver meaningful outcomes across the Bank.

You’ll be an experienced technology leader who combines strategic thinking with strong business engagement skills. You’ll bring extensive experience leading technology strategy, architecture, governance, and transformation in complex environments, ideally within financial services.

We’re particularly interested in hearing from you if you have:

• Strong knowledge of emerging technologies, digital assets, payments, cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and their interaction with modern financial systems.

The anticipated appointment range for this role is $208,529 to $243,284 (actual salary will be dependent on your skills and experience).
