Job summary

Jora New Zealand is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician in Auckland to service and repair a fleet of heavy vehicles and hotmix cartage equipment.

You will diagnose faults, manage preventative maintenance, ensure roadworthiness, and support breakdowns, including welding, fabrication, and occasional driving to service centres.

Weekend and evening work may be required; wage is $30.00 to $35.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in transport industry with technical repair and maintenance experience and heavy vehicle operation.
  • Hold and maintain a Class 4 or Class 5 heavy vehicle driver licence.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Comfortable working at depots, in workshops and at the roadside in all weather.
  • Available for weekend and evening work.
  • Willing to complete random drug testing.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults across a fleet of heavy vehicles, including trucks, trailers and hotmix cartage equipment.
  • Analyse recurrent vehicle and equipment failures to identify root causes and implement solutions to prevent downtime during peak paving season.
  • Manage a preventative maintenance schedule (servicing, greasing, fluids, filters, brake and tyre checks) for fleet availability.
  • Oversee roadworthiness, Certificate of Fitness compliance and operational safety of the fleet, identifying wear on brakes, suspension, steering and drive shafts.
  • Maintain, adjust and repair hydraulic hoists, tailgates and other ancillary equipment used in hotmix cartage.
  • Perform welding and fabrication repairs on truck decks, bins and trailers for structural integrity and safety.
  • Fit replacement parts or brackets when OEM parts are unavailable or require adapting.
  • Drive heavy vehicles as required to support maintenance operations and transport vehicles to service centres and inspections.
  • Respond to on-road breakdowns with roadside diagnosis and repairs and recover or relocate vehicles if necessary.
  • Liaise with external service centres for major overhauls and provide specifications for proper scoping of outsourced work.
  • Serve as the technical lead for fleet inquiries and act as the primary contact for vehicle issues.
  • Maintain detailed service logs and technical documents to ensure compliance with health, safety and land transport requirements.

We are a busy Auckland-based transport operator running a fleet of trucks specialising in hotmix (asphalt) cartage. We have a full-time Maintenance Technician vacancy and would like to hear from applicants who meet the requirements mentioned below.

Hours: The position is full-time and at least 30 hours of work is guaranteed per week, additional hours up to 50 per week may be available. Weekend and evening work may be required.
Wage: $30.00 to $35.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults across a fleet of heavy vehicles, including trucks, trailers, and associated hotmix cartage equipment.
  • Analyse recurrent vehicle and equipment failures to identify root causes and implement solutions that prevent future downtime during peak paving season.
  • Manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance schedule (servicing, greasing, fluid and filter changes, brake and tyre checks) to ensure maximum fleet availability.
  • Oversee the roadworthiness, Certificate of Fitness compliance, and operational safety of the fleet, identifying wear and tear on critical components (brakes, suspension, steering, drive shafts) before they become critical failures.
  • Maintain, adjust, and repair hydraulic hoists, tailgates, and other ancillary equipment used in hotmix cartage.
  • Perform welding and fabrication repairs on truck decks, bins, and trailers, ensuring structural integrity and safety.
  • Fit replacement parts or brackets when OEM parts are unavailable or require adapting.
  • Drive heavy vehicles as required to support maintenance operations, including delivering and collecting vehicles to and from service centres, testing centres, and inspections, and road-testing vehicles following repairs.
  • Respond to on-road breakdowns, carrying out roadside diagnosis and repairs and, where necessary, recovering or relocating vehicles.
  • Liaise with external service centres and specialists for major engine or transmission overhauls, providing technical specifications and pre-diagnostic information to ensure outsourced work is scoped correctly.
  • Serve as the technical lead for all fleet inquiries, acting as the primary point of contact for resolving vehicle and equipment issues immediately.
  • Maintain detailed service logs and technical documentation for all vehicles and assets to ensure compliance with health and safety and land transport requirements.
Requirements
  • At least 3 years' experience in the transport industry, including technical repair and maintenance experience and experience operating heavy vehicles.
  • Hold and maintain a Class 4 or Class 5 heavy vehicle driver licence.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Comfortable working at depots, in workshops, and at the roadside, in all weather conditions.
  • Available for weekend and evening work as required.
  • Willing to complete random drug testing.
