Job summary

Sofitel Auckland is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support the Maintenance Manager in keeping the hotel’s building, plant and facilities safe, functional and guest-ready.

You will perform daily rounds, service equipment such as pumps and HVAC controls, keep maintenance records, and coordinate with departments to restore areas quickly.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year in Maintenance or similar industry.
• Trade qualification preferred but not essential.
• Knowledge of building compliance, risk management, and sustainability.
• Hands-on role with no admin bias.
• Strong problem-solving and resourcefulness.
• Valid full NZ driver’s license.
• Strong presentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist Maintenance Manager in daily hotel maintenance tasks.
• Maintain plant, equipment, pool and water features; inspect and note faults.
• Complete daily rounds and sign off maintenance manuals.
• Keep records of repairs and maintenance.
• Liaise with Maintenance Manager to restore guest areas promptly.
• Report task completion or delays to managers.

Job Description

• Assisting the Maintenance Manager to maintain, using safe working practices, the building, plant, equipment, fixtures and fittings to protect the asset and ensure it remains a functional, pleasant and safe environment for all guests, contractors, visitors and other employees.
• Assisting the Maintenance Manager in the day to day operation of the maintenance requirements of the hotel including, pool, spa and water feature pump and motors, automatic chemical dispensers, VSD motors and control, Saflok electronic door lock, storm water and sewerage pump and controls, chillers and air handling units and controls, and Movielink system.
• Complete daily plant rounds and note for repair any equipment that may appear or sound faulty.
• carry out maintenance on mechanical equipment and water reticulation to ensure acceptable availability and reliability.
• Assist in the keeping up to date records on the repair and maintenance of plant and equipment

• Completing daily rounds sign off any relevant section of the Maintenance Manuals.
• Liaise with the Maintenance Manager regarding all work in guest rooms and public areas to ensure out of order areas of the hotel are brought back to use as soon as possible.
• Complete all tasks where possible within a 15 minutes time frame of receiving the request
• Report back to the Manager on Duty or Front Office the completion or delay, of any task that is guest related.
• Suggest any improvements that could be made to improve existing service or procedures, log and inform the Department Manager of any service or system problems.

Qualifications

• At least 1 years experience in Maintenance or similar industry; ideally in hotel/tourism industry however, not required.
• Trade qualified is preferred but not essential;
• Working knowledge of building compliance, risk management, and a passion for environmental sustainability;
• Be a hands on - This is not an admin based role;
• Be able to problem solve effectively, logically and resourcefully
• Valid Full NZ drivers license;
• Strong presentation skills
• Excellent Communication Skills - verbal and written
