Job summary

BreakFree on Cashel Christchurch is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Assistant to keep the hotel running smoothly, reporting to the Rooms Division Manager. You’ll work across guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities, performing repairs and preventative maintenance to ensure safety and presentation for guests and team members.

This role requires basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC and carpentry skills, strong communication, and a positive can-do attitude, with flexibility to work

Qualifications

• Previous handyman or maintenance experience.
• Basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC and carpentry skills.
• Ability to follow Health & Safety procedures.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to multitask and prioritise workloads.
• Good level of physical fitness and professional presentation.
• Positive can‑do attitude and guest‑focused approach.
• Flexible to work weekends and public holidays as required.

Job Description

Maintenance Assistant

Join our team as a Maintenance Assistant and help keep our hotel running smoothly. This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who enjoys problem‑solving, takes pride in their work, and has a genuine can‑do attitude.

Reporting to the Rooms Division Manager you will be working across guest rooms, public areas, and back‑of‑house facilities, you'll be responsible for completing general repairs, preventative maintenance, and ensuring the hotel is safe, functional, and well‑presented for our guests and team members.

What you'll be doing:

• Carrying out general maintenance and repair work throughout the hotel
• Completing preventative maintenance tasks and inspections
• Assisting with basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry work
• Responding to maintenance requests in a timely manner
• Maintaining a safe working environment and following Health & Safety procedures
• Building positive relationships with team members and guests
