Job summary

Goodman Fielder in Dunedin, New Zealand is seeking a maintenance engineer responsible for safety, quality, and both reactive and preventative maintenance across our engineering function including plant, buildings, and project work.

The role includes on-call night shifts on a rotating schedule, contractor management, and driving improvements to meet QA, Food Safety and HSE standards. Trade qualifications with fitting, turning, machining and PLC/SCADA knowledge are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Trade certification with applicable trade and skilled in fitting, turning and machining.
• Welding experience and reasonable knowledge in tig welding is beneficial
• An understanding of electrical engineering including PLC and SCADA root-cause analysis is beneficial
• Health, Safety and Environment knowledge, including machinery guarding
• Think outside the box problem solving ability
• A strong growth mindset with an eagerness to learn new skills
• Basic computer documentation skills in Word, Excel etc.

Responsibilities

• Support the execute actions plans and/or innovate to improve further
• Mitigate risk for our people, environment, and GF through the promotion of injury and incident prevention & management
• Mitigate quality risk for our consumers and brands through consistent delivery of quality standards
• Support and drive operational effectiveness including DDS, reviews, improvement projects, actions plan, CI, plant maintenance, inventory etc
• Improve the reliability of machinery
• Schedule and perform regular routine maintenance tasks
• Attend to unplanned maintenance tasks (Breakdowns)
• Perform general Engineering, repairs when required
• Develop and Implement plant improvements to all machinery ensuring compliance with QA, Food Safety and HSE requirements

About the opportunity:

We are currently looking for a maintenance engineer responsible for safety, quality, reactive and preventative maintenance, efficiency, and cost-effective management of the Engineering function including plant, buildings, project management, new installations, contractor management and people.

Please note, this role is Wednesday to Saturday morning shifts. You will be expected to be on night call outs one week per month.

About You

In order to be successful in this role, we are looking for an experienced maintenance engineer who has a background in both reactive and preventative industrial machinery maintenance.

Experience and qualifications we would like to see include:

• Trade certification with applicable trade and skilled in fitting, turning and machining
• Welding experience and reasonable knowledge in tig welding is beneficial
• An understanding of electrical engineering including PLC and SCADA root-cause analysis is beneficial
