Job summary

New Zealand Health Manufacturing (NZHM) in Mangere, North Island, NZ, is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to oversee industrial machinery maintenance and installation. The role focuses on preventive maintenance for encapsulation, packing, and labeling lines, with a morning shift 6am–2:30pm, Monday to Friday and rostered Saturday work.

Candidates should have at least 3 years in manufacturing and a Maintenance Engineering Qualification, with preference for pharma or nutraceutical experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years experience in the manufacturing environment.
• Maintenance Engineering Qualification required.
• Experience in pharmaceuticals or nutraceuticals is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance execution for encapsulation, packing and labeling machinery.
• Develop SOPs and oversee installation and OQ of machines per standards.
• Train staff in machine operation and ensure safety compliance.
• Coordinate with suppliers/contractors, including FAT at OEM sites.
• Review layouts and designs to meet plant requirements.
• Assess maintenance records and optimize spare parts policies.
• Manage plant utilities and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Negotiate cost-effective equipment procurement.
• Use equipment data to improve performance and support redesigns.
• Apply root cause analysis (5 Whys, DMAIC, Fishbone) for CI.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

We operate/maintain fully automated industrial machinery that requires in-depth knowledge of PLC-driven compound control systems, and good mechanical understanding we utilize a wide variety of machines from Softgel-, hard-shell encapsulation, bottling, and labeling machines to compressed air and pneumatic systems in our plant.

We are looking for a person with previousexperience in the pharmaceuticals or nutraceuticals industries who are able to identify mechanical faults on machinery and ensure preventative maintenance is done to ensure we experience minimum downtime during production.

This is a Permanent, Full-time role working Monday - Friday & rostered Saturday work.

The job involves all the activities related to the maintenance and installation of machinery equipment and facilities work that needs to be done on machinery. This is a morning shift role 6am - 2:30pm.

Role Specific Tasks

• Maintenance Execution: Manages preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for manufacturing equipment like encapsulation, packing, and labeling machines.
• SOP & Qualification: Develops SOPs and oversees installation and operational qualification of machines per engineering and safety standards.
• Training & Safety: Trains staff in machine operation and ensures adherence to New Zealand safety regulations.
• Supplier Coordination: Coordinates with suppliers and contractors, including conducting Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) at OEM sites.
• Design & Engineering: Reviews and approves machinery layouts, diagrams, and designs to meet plant requirements.
• Program Optimization: Reviews maintenance records and strategies, implements condition monitoring, and optimizes spare parts policies.
• Utilities Management: Maintains plant utilities such as LAN connectivity, IP phones, lighting, AHUs, and electrical systems within regulatory compliance.
• Procurement & Standards: Ensures standardized equipment purchases aligned with NZ regulations and negotiates cost-effective deals.
• Data & Performance Analysis: Uses equipment data to improve maintenance efficiency and machine performance, including redesigns.
• Continuous Improvement: Applies Root Cause Analysis tools like 5 Whys, DMAIC, and Fishbone diagrams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
