Job description

Maintenance and Planning Engineer - Technical Services, Facilities and Equipment
  • A rare greenfield opportunity combining technical expertise, collaboration and purpose
  • If you're energised by technical complexity, collaborative problem-solving and the opportunity to help shape something new, we'd love to hear from you.
  • Are you someone who enjoys building capability, bringing people together and helping create practical solutions in complex technical environments?

We're looking for a Maintenance & Planning Engineer to help shape the future of maintenance and asset management across the critical infrastructure that supports NZ Blood and Organ Service’s nationwide operations. This includes specialist laboratories, cleanrooms, controlled environments, HVAC systems, critical utilities and cryogenic infrastructure.

This is a genuine green field opportunity. You'll work closely with operational teams, technical specialists and suppliers to establish sustainable maintenance and asset management practices while helping introduce new maintenance technologies that improve asset visibility, planning, scheduling and performance.

Working in a highly regulated environment, you'll contribute to the reliability and availability of critical facilities and equipment that support services New Zealanders rely on every day – an essential service within the health sector.

What makes this opportunity different?

This role offers the rare combination of technical complexity, organisational purpose and the opportunity to build capability from the ground up.

You'll be joining at a time when maintenance systems, asset management approaches and supplier partnerships are continuing to evolve. Your expertise will help establish the foundations for a modern maintenance function, including the introduction of new maintenance planning and asset management technologies that support informed decision-making, improved asset visibility and long-term operational performance.

Success in this role will come through collaboration. You'll work alongside operational teams, technical specialists and service providers to develop practical solutions that support both immediate operational needs and future capability.

About the role

As the Maintenance & Planning Engineer, you will be responsible for the planning, scheduling, coordination and governance of maintenance activities across specialist facilities and equipment, including:

  • Laboratories and controlled environments
  • Cleanrooms and GMP/GxP facilities
  • HVAC systems
  • Critical utilities
  • Cryogenic infrastructure

You’ll help ensure these assets remain compliant, operationally available and fit for purpose while supporting operational, quality and regulatory requirements.

The qualities that will help you succeed
  • Resilience and adaptability in evolving environments
  • Learning agility and enthusiasm for new technologies and systems
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills
  • A collaborative and constructive approach
  • The ability to influence through credibility and partnership
  • Strong planning and organisational capability
  • A practical, hands-on mindset
  • Sound judgement and problem-solving skills.
