Job summary

MBIE in Wellington Central is hiring Solicitor I and Solicitor 2 to support legislation and public law work. You will work with in-house lawyers, policy analysts and the Parliamentary Counsel Office to help MBIE grow New Zealand for all.

The role requires up to 5 years PQE, a Bachelor of Laws, NZ practicing certificate eligibility and strong research, writing and analytical skills. You will contribute to legislative projects, provide legal advice, and build relationships across regulatory

Qualifications

A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent qualification.
Eligibility to obtain, or hold, a New Zealand practising certificate.
Up to 5 years' post-qualification experience, or equivalent relevant legal experience.
Strong legal research, writing and analytical skills.
A practical, solutions-focused approach.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will work alongside experienced in-house lawyers, policy analysts and the Parliamentary Counsel Office to support MBIE's core purpose of growing New Zealand for all.
You will have an interest in public law and legislation, strong research and analytical skills, and a willingness to learn.
The role involves supporting the development and implementation of legislation across MBIE's diverse regulatory systems.
You may also contribute by providing legal advice on regulatory and operational matters.
You will have opportunities to contribute to legislative projects, prepare legal advice and drafting instructions, build stakeholder relationships, and develop your understanding of government decision-making and the legislative process.
As a Solicitor, you will work with some autonomy in a collaborative and collegial team.
