MBIE in Wellington Central is hiring Solicitor I and Solicitor 2 to support legislation and public law work. You will work with in-house lawyers, policy analysts and the Parliamentary Counsel Office to help MBIE grow New Zealand for all.

The role requires up to 5 years PQE, a Bachelor of Laws, NZ practicing certificate eligibility and strong research, writing and analytical skills. You will contribute to legislative projects, provide legal advice, and build relationships across regulatory

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent qualification.
  • Eligibility to obtain, or hold, a New Zealand practising certificate.
  • Up to 5 years' post-qualification experience, or equivalent relevant legal experience.
  • Strong legal research, writing and analytical skills.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach.

About Our Team

Our Legislation team provides legal advice on the development and amendment of primary and secondary legislation across MBIE's 18 regulatory systems. This creates opportunities for our lawyers to work on legislation across a range of different regulatory systems depending on their experience and interests.

As a Solicitor, you will work with some autonomy in a collaborative and collegial team.

You will be supported by colleagues of all experience levels and will gain exposure to some of MBIE's most complex and high-profile legislative matters.
