About the Role

In this role, you will work alongside experienced in-house lawyers, policy analysts and the Parliamentary Counsel Office to support MBIE's core purpose of growing New Zealand for all. You will have an interest in public law and legislation, strong research and analytical skills, and a willingness to learn.

The role involves supporting the development and implementation of legislation across MBIE's diverse regulatory systems. You may also contribute by providing legal advice on regulatory and operational matters.

You will have opportunities to contribute to legislative projects, prepare legal advice and drafting instructions, build stakeholder relationships, and develop your understanding of government decision-making and the legislative process.

About our team

Our Legislation team provides legal advice on the development and amendment of primary and secondary legislation across MBIE's 18 regulatory systems. This creates opportunities for our lawyers to work on legislation across a range of different regulatory systems depending on their experience and interests. As a Solicitor, you will work with some autonomy in a collaborative and collegial team.

You will be supported by colleagues of all experience levels and will gain exposure to some of MBIE's most complex and high-profile legislative matters.
