Job summary

Southern Cross Health Insurance seeks a Lead Engineer to be the technical anchor in a squad, coding daily, making architectural calls and guiding small, frequent releases. You’ll balance product priorities with long‑term engineering quality while growing engineers in the team.

This Auckland‑based role focuses on scalable platforms, secure coding practices, and observable systems, with collaboration across Platform, Architecture and Product teams.

Qualifications

• Deep proficiency in modern JS/TS stacks and UI frameworks.
• Solid knowledge of secure coding and identity management.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment patterns.
• Ability to design observable, diagnosable services.

Responsibilities

• Write, review and design code across services and UI as part of daily work.
• Make technical and architectural decisions balancing delivery and quality.
• Own engineering quality and delivery flow for the squad.
• Keep services reliable, observable and maintainable; ensure fast pipelines.
• Manage technical health and debt alongside delivery priorities.
• Collaborate with Platform, Architects and Principal Engineers on patterns.
• Partner with Product to slice work, manage risk, and explain trade-offs.
