Job summary

Southern Cross Health Insurance is seeking a Lead Engineer to act as the technical anchor in a squad, coding daily while shaping architecture and delivery. You will guide technical decisions, ensure quality and ship frequent, reliable releases across services and UI.

You’ll work closely with Platform, Architecture and Product to balance priorities, drive testing, observability and secure coding practices, and mentor team members in Auckland.

Qualifications

• Technical depth and leadership in hands-on engineering.
• Strong front-end and back-end JS/TS capabilities with modern frameworks.
• Experience with secure coding and testing across layers.
• Proven CI/CD mindset with reliable pipelines and ephemeral environments.

Responsibilities

• Write, review and design code across services and UI.
• Make technical and architectural decisions balancing delivery and quality.
• Own engineering quality and delivery flow for quick changes.
• Keep services reliable, observable and maintainable with fast pipelines.
• Manage technical health and debt alongside delivery priorities.
• Collaborate with Platform, Architects and Principal Engineers on patterns.
• Slice work with Product to manage risk and trade-offs.
• Coach developers and testers to build autonomy and craft.
• Use AI to accelerate development and share learnings.
