Job summary

Tait Communications in Christchurch is seeking a Lead Design Engineer - Team Lead Platforms to guide a team of engineers while staying hands-on with embedded software development. You will balance delivery priorities, plan resources across programs, mentor engineers, and collaborate with Technical Leads and Project Leads to ensure high-quality outcomes.

The role emphasizes people development, recruitment support, and continuous improvement of engineering practices in a safety-critical product

Qualifications

Proven experience leading and developing engineering teams in product development.
Strong ability to plan and allocate technical resources across multiple projects and workstreams.
Experience coaching, mentoring, and building engineering capability.
Hands-on experience delivering embedded software for complex products.
A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers, fostering engagement and growth.
Plan and coordinate resources across projects to meet delivery objectives.
Support recruitment, capability development, and succession planning.
Collaborate with Technical Leads, Project Leads, and stakeholders to manage risks and maintain momentum.
Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering quality and delivery.
