Job summary

Tait Communications in Christchurch is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Terminals Team. You will design, develop and maintain embedded firmware for mobile and portable radio products, focusing on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity and platform software.

You will collaborate across cross‑functional teams in an agile environment, debug complex wireless systems, and contribute to high‑performance, secure software used by emergency services and utilities worldwide.

Qualifications

• Proven experience developing embedded firmware for commercial products.
• Strong programming skills in C/C++ with embedded and real-time OS experience.
• Hands on experience with Bluetooth and/or Wi‑Fi technologies, including integration and troubleshooting.
• Solid understanding of wireless principles, network concepts and embedded system architecture.
• Strong debugging, problem-solving and software design skills.
• Experience across multiple layers from platform‑level code to application functionality.
• Able to collaborate effectively in an agile, cross‑functional environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for mobile and portable radio products.
• Develop and support Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi solutions, including integration, performance optimisation and feature enhancements.
• Contribute to the design and evolution of platform software, connectivity frameworks, and core firmware components.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve complex system and connectivity issues across the software stack.
• Support the integration of wireless technologies, audio systems, and peripheral interfaces.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver new features and product enhancements.
• Drive continuous improvement in software quality, development practices, and technical processes.
• Contribute to the future direction of wireless connectivity capabilities within our products.
