Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer for Queenstown, Eastern Cape, to lead the design, development, and implementation of high-voltage T&D infrastructure, ensuring reliability, efficiency and safety of the grid.

You will manage complex projects from concept to commissioning, mentor a team, and collaborate with regulators and utilities to meet standards and deliver strategic energy distribution improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 9+ years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on Transmission and Distribution.
• Pr Eng registration with ECSA is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and engineering of transmission lines, substations, and distribution networks.
• Develop technical specifications, P&IDs, and single-line diagrams for electrical systems.
• Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of T&D equipment.
• Perform power system studies, including load flow, short circuit analysis, and protection coordination.
• Ensure compliance with national and international electrical engineering standards and regulations.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for T&D projects.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of electrical engineers and technicians.
• Collaborate with regulatory bodies, contractors, and utility providers.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical issues within the T&D network.
• Conduct site inspections and ensure construction quality meets design requirements.
• Contribute to the development of long-term T&D infrastructure strategy.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent entity within the Energy sector, is looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in Transmission and Distribution (T&D) systems. This key role, based in Queenstown, Eastern Cape , will involve leading the design, development, and implementation of high-voltage electrical infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of the T&D network, overseeing complex projects from conceptualization to commissioning. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in power systems engineering, coupled with excellent leadership and project management skills. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 9 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a strong specialization in Transmission and Distribution.
• Proven experience in designing and managing high-voltage electrical infrastructure projects.
• In-depth knowledge of power system protection, control, and substation design.
• Proficiency in electrical engineering software (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E, AutoCAD Electrical).
• Strong understanding of grid codes and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is required.
• Experience working within the Eastern Cape province and specifically the Queenstown area is a significant advantage.
