Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Technician / Trainee - Histology to provide technical support in the Histology Laboratory, assisting with specimen preparation and processing to support diagnostic services.

You will follow established protocols, maintain equipment and supplies, work with pathologists and lab staff, and participate in training and continuous improvement to uphold safety and quality standards.

Laboratory Technician - Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Hospital

Permanent, Full Time 64 hours per fortnight (0.8 FTE)

About the Role

As a Laboratory Technician / Trainee - Histology, you will provide technical support within the Histology Laboratory, assisting with the preparation and processing of specimens to support diagnostic services.

You'll carry out laboratory procedures in line with established protocols and quality standards, ensuring accurate and timely results. This includes supporting specimen processing, maintaining laboratory equipment, managing supplies, and ensuring all work meets clinical, safety and organisational requirements.

You will work closely with pathologists, scientists and laboratory staff, contributing to the efficient day-to-day operation of the service. The role also involves ongoing learning, participation in training, and commitment to continuous improvement and high professional standards.

Training and development will be provided for the right candidate, making this a great opportunity for someone looking to enter or develop within the laboratory field.

About the Team/Service/ Location

You will be part of the Histology Laboratory within the wider Laboratory Services team at Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital. The service provides essential diagnostic support to clinicians and plays a key role in patient care pathways across the hospital and wider healthcare system.
