Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Technician / Trainee - Histology to provide technical support in the Histology Laboratory. You will help with specimen preparation, processing and quality-focused work to back diagnostic services.

You will work with pathologists and lab staff, follow established protocols, maintain equipment, manage supplies, and participate in training and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand (or ability to obtain)
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to follow established protocols and procedures
• Good organizational skills and attention to detail
• Positive, problem-solving attitude
• Interest in laboratory science and continuous learning
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equitable health outcomes

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support within the Histology Laboratory.
• Assist with preparation and processing of specimens to support diagnostic services.
• Perform laboratory procedures in line with protocols and quality standards.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and manage supplies.
• Work closely with pathologists and laboratory staff to ensure efficient operations.
• Engage in training and continuous improvement.
• Support learning opportunities for trainee staff.
