Job summary

Eastern Institute of Technology seeks a full-time, permanent Laboratory Manager to lead the Viticulture and Wine laboratories and facilities in Hawke's Bay. You will ensure safe, efficient operations that support teaching, learning and research, reporting to the Assistant Head of School.

Your role covers laboratory safety, equipment maintenance, bookings, stock control and stakeholder collaboration to deliver high-quality lab services.

Qualifications

• A relevant tertiary qualification in science, laboratory science or a related discipline.
• Experience in laboratory operations and management.
• Knowledge of hazardous substances legislation and laboratory safety practices.
• Experience maintaining laboratory compliance systems and documentation.
• Proven ability to supervise, guide and support technical staff.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
• Experience managing competing priorities, budgets and deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and laboratory databases.

Responsibilities

• Managing daily laboratory operations and technical services.
• Maintaining laboratory facilities, equipment and teaching resources.
• Supporting teaching, learning and research activities through technical expertise.
• Coordinating laboratory bookings, access and resource scheduling.
• Managing equipment maintenance, servicing, calibration and certification.
• Ensuring compliance with health, safety and hazardous substances legislation.
• Maintaining laboratory compliance documentation and chemical inventories.
• Providing laboratory training, guidance and compliance oversight.
• Managing purchasing, stock control and operational resources.
• Building effective relationships with staff, students and industry stakeholders.
