Job summary

Tait Communications in Christchurch is seeking a Junior Test Engineer specializing in Automation. You will contribute to automation coverage for testing and deployment architectures across hardware, microservices, and networks, reporting to the Systems & Solutions Service Lead.

The role emphasizes hands-on testing, building automated frameworks, improving deployment of test systems and cloud environments, and collaborating with Partnering Engineers to integrate solutions with Tait systems.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science/Electronics or equivalent.
• 1–2 years Automation Engineering experience or recent graduates with internship/project in automation, microservices-based applications, and/or embedded software products.
• Proven competency in an OOP language (Python).
• Experience implementing test automation frameworks, ideally with microservices and embedded systems.
• Experience with CI/CD ecosystems (GitLab) and infrastructure automation tools to deploy cloud-based apps on Linux and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Develop hands-on understanding of real-time critical communications tech stack.
• Conduct requirements analysis and modelling.
• Design automated test frameworks and tooling to deliver quality at scale.
• Investigate and evaluate design and test processes, tools, and third-party components.
• Support the team by assisting other Test Engineers and fostering skill development.
• Document, review, and maintain verification and validation standards.

• Documenting, reviewing, and maintaining Tait's Verification and Validation Standards.

Ō pūkenga - About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (Computer Science/Electronics or equivalent). We're open to candidates with either 1-2 years of relevant Automation Engineering experience or recent graduates who can demonstrate strong internship, research, or project experience in automation, microservices-based applications, and/or embedded software products.

As well as:

• Proven competency in an OOP Language (Python preferred).
• Proven experience in implementing processes, creating tooling to compress time to market & delivering quality at scale.
• Proven experience in implementation test automation frameworks, ideally involving Microservices & Embedded systems.
• Preferred experience with CI/CD ecosystems (e.g., GitLab, GitLab CI/CD) and infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Powershell, Bash) to automate the deployment and management of cloud-based applications and services on Linux and AWS/Azure platforms.
• It is preferred, you have experience in administration and deployment of Linux based systems & Linux solution architectures.
