Job summary

Tait Communications in Christchurch is seeking a Junior Test Analyst focusing on Automation. You will help expand automation coverage across testing and deployment architectures that include hardware, microservices and networks.

You will work hands-on on real-time tech, perform requirements analysis, design automated testing frameworks and tools, and contribute to ongoing improvement of verification standards.

Qualifications

  • Candidate holds a tertiary qualification in Computer Science or Electronics.
  • 1–2 years of Automation Engineering experience or recent graduates with relevant internship/project work in automation and microservices-based apps.
  • Strong programming with Python and automated testing experience.
  • Experience implementing test automation frameworks for microservices and embedded systems.
  • Prefer experience with CI/CD (GitLab) and Linux cloud deployments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop hands-on understanding of real-time critical communications tech stack.
  • Conduct requirements analysis and modelling.
  • Design automated test frameworks and tooling to deliver quality at scale.
  • Investigate and evaluate design/test processes, tools, equipment, and third-party components.
  • Support team by assisting other Test Engineers and fostering skill development.
  • Document, review, and maintain Verification and Validation Standards.

Job description

We're excited to offer an exceptional opportunity to join our Systems & Solutions Team as a Junior Test Analyst specializing in Automation. You will play a key role in technical testing, helping ensure high-quality Tait solutions for our Critical Communications customers.

In this position, you'll be hands-on, contributing towards enhancing automation coverage of testing and deployment solution architectures, that encompass hardware devices, microservices, and communication networks.

Reporting to the Systems & Solutions Service Lead, you'll have a central role in:

  • Applying critical thinking, systems thinking & coding skills to scale quality through automation.
  • Streamlining deployment of test systems and cloud-based environments.
  • Collaborating with Partnering Engineers to seamlessly integrate partner solutions with Tait systems.

The duties of the role will include:

  • Developing hands on understanding of real time critical communications tech stack.
  • Conducting requirements analysis and modelling.
  • Designing Automated test frameworks and tooling, to deliver quality at scale.
  • Investigating and evaluating design and test processes, tools, equipment, and third‑party components.
  • Supporting the team by assisting other Test Engineers, fostering skill development, and contributing to the team's overall proficiency.
  • Documenting, reviewing, and maintaining Tait's Verification and Validation Standards.

To be successful in this role, you will have a Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (Computer Science/Electronics or equivalent). We're open to candidates with either 1-2 years of relevant Automation Engineering experience or recent graduates who can demonstrate strong internship, research, or project experience in automation, microservices‑based applications, and/or embedded software products.

As well as:

  • Proven competency in an OOP Language (Python preferred).
  • Proven experience in implementing processes, creating tooling to compress time to market & delivering quality at scale.
  • Proven experience in implementation test automation frameworks, ideally involving Microservices & Embedded systems.
  • Preferred experience with CI/CD ecosystems (e.g., GitLab, GitLab CI/CD) and infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Powershell, Bash) to automate the deployment and management of cloud‑based applications and services on Linux and AWS/Azure platforms.
  • It is preferred, you have experience in administration and deployment of Linux based systems & Linux solution architectures.
