Job summary

Otahuhu Eng in New Zealand seeks a motivated Junior Design Engineer to join our family-owned engineering business. You will perform 3D modelling and 2D drawings, order materials, and monitor design timelines while liaising with clients and suppliers.

The role requires a mechanical engineering qualification, SolidWorks experience, and strong Excel/Word skills. You will work across projects with the engineering and workshop teams, with NZ residency or valid NZ work visa required.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in mechanical engineering.
• Experience in 2D and 3D design with SolidWorks.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Ability to self-manage with multiple priorities.
• Tidiness and accuracy with great attention to detail.
• Strong problem-solving capability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Practical workshop experience is advantageous.
• NZ residency or valid NZ work visa required.

We are looking for a motivated and multi-talented Junior Design Engineer to join our medium sized family engineering business. We are a general engineering company that has been servicing Auckland for 50 years. We cover a wide range of industries and our work is always varied and interesting.

Key responsibilities

• 3D modelling and drawing in Solidworks
• 2D CAD drawing
• Ordering materials from suppliers
• Reporting to management on design status and timelines
• Liaising with customers, suppliers, manufacturing team and other project team members throughout the project as required
• Some workshop work as required to understand design and installation

About you

• Tertiary qualification in mechanical engineering
• Experience in 2D and 3D design with Solidworks experience
• Good computer literacy with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Ability to self-manage in an environment where multiple priorities compete for your time
• Tidiness and accuracy in your work with great attention to detail
• Strong problem-solving capability
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Practical experience working in an engineering workshop would be an advantage
• NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa required
