Job summary

BDO Christchurch is seeking a experienced professional to deliver accounting, advisory and tax compliance services for SMEs. You will build trusted client relationships and collaborate with a growing team to provide high-quality financial reporting and compliance.

You will support on-site management accounting, review junior staff work, and contribute to advisory engagements while embracing AI tools to improve efficiency and client outcomes. A CA/CPA qualification or progress is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality accounting, financial reporting, and compliance services
• Prepare financial statements and tax returns for SMEs across a range of industries
• Support and contribute to advisory and reporting engagements
• Work directly with clients, including on-site management accounting support as required
• Review junior team members’ work and provide coaching and guidance (Senior)
• Collaborate with Managers and Partners to deliver quality client outcomes
• Explore and adopt new technologies, including AI tools, to improve efficiency, enhance client outcomes, and support smarter ways of working

What you'll bring

• CA or CPA qualified (or working towards)
• Solid experience in Business Advisory Services within a NZ accounting firm (2 years minimum preferred)
• Strong technical accounting and compliance knowledge
• Excellent communication skills and a client-focused mindset
• Curiosity about emerging technologies and a willingness to embrace AI and other digital tools in a practical, productive way
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach and strong attention to detail
• Confidence working both independently and as part of a team
