Job summary

BDO Christchurch is seeking a talented BAS professional to deliver high-quality accounting, advisory and tax compliance services to a diverse client base. You will build trusted client relationships and contribute within a collaborative firm committed to exceptional outcomes.

This role exposes you to a broad range of compliance and reporting work, with opportunities to deepen technical expertise and expand client responsibilities over time.

Qualifications

• CA or CPA qualifications or in progress.
• Experience in a NZ accounting firm preferred.
• Strong technical accounting and compliance knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality accounting, financial reporting and compliance services.
• Prepare financial statements and tax returns for SMEs across industries.
• Support advisory and reporting engagements.
• Collaborate with clients, including on-site management accounting support.
• Review junior team members’ work and provide coaching (Senior).
• Partner with Managers and Partners to deliver client outcomes.
• Explore AI and digital tools to improve efficiency and outcomes.

What you’ll be doing

• Deliver high-quality accounting, financial reporting, and compliance services
• Prepare financial statements and tax returns for SMEs across a range of industries
• Support and contribute to advisory and reporting engagements
• Work directly with clients, including on-site management accounting support as required
• Review junior team members’ work and provide coaching and guidance (Senior)
• Collaborate with Managers and Partners to deliver quality client outcomes
• Explore and adopt new technologies, including AI tools, to improve efficiency, enhance client outcomes, and support smarter ways of working

What you’ll bring

• CA or CPA qualified (or working towards)
• Solid experience in Business Advisory Services within a NZ accounting firm (2 years minimum preferred)
• Strong technical accounting and compliance knowledge
• Excellent communication skills and a client-focused mindset
• Curiosity about emerging technologies and a willingness to embrace AI and other digital tools in a practical, productive way
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach and strong attention to detail
• Confidence working both independently and as part of a team
