Walker Engineering Consultants is a fast-growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in Auckland, offering structural, civil and geotechnical services across New Zealand. We seek an intermediate Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist to handle site investigations, reporting, design and monitoring for diverse projects.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years' geotechnical experience, a relevant engineering degree, and strong communication skills, with the right to work in New Zealand.

Qualifications

  • Relevant engineering degree (BSc/BE/BEngTech) preferably Washington Accord recognised.
  • 3–5 years of geotechnical design/consultancy experience.
  • Sound knowledge of NZ geotechnical standards, design practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Fieldwork experience including site investigations, hand auger drilling and in-situ testing.
  • Technical experience in slope stability, foundation design and retaining structures.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver site investigations and reporting for a range of projects.
  • Conduct geotechnical assessments and provide design input for walls and foundations.
  • Perform slope stability assessments and geotechnical monitoring during construction.
  • Analyze data and prepare technical reports for councils, developers and consultants.

Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer/Engineering Geologist

Walker Engineering Consultants is a fast-growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy providing structural, civil and geotechnical engineering services across Auckland, the Bay of Plenty, the Waikato and wider New Zealand. Our projects span residential, commercial, industrial and civil infrastructure work, including bridges, retaining structures, foundations and general civil works. We specialise in structural and geotechnical design, while also providing civil engineering and contract management services. Based in Takapuna, Auckland, the practice has been operating since January 2022 and is focused on delivering practical, high-quality engineering solutions and responsive service that support the development, resilience and wellbeing of our communities.


We are seeking an experienced intermediate-level Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist to deliver a varied range of project work, including site investigations and reporting, geotechnical assessments, retaining wall and foundation design, slope stability assessments, geotechnical analysis and construction monitoring. Typical clients include councils, residential and industrial developers, builders, architects and other consultants.


The ideal candidate will have:

A relevant degree in engineering (BSc, BE or BEngTech), ideally Washington Accord recognised


3-5 years of geotechnical engineering design/consultancy experience


Sound knowledge of NZ geotechnical standards, design practices and regulatory requirements


Practical fieldwork experience, including site investigations, hand auger drilling and in-situ testing


Technical experience in slope stability assessment, foundation design, retaining structures and geotechnical monitoring


Strong technical, analytical and report-writing skills


Sound engineering judgement, critical-thinking skills, and a practical, detail-focused approach to problem-solving


Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, contractors and other consultants


The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team


The right to work in New Zealand as a citizen, permanent resident or holder of a long-term work visa


Based in Auckland or willing to relocate
