Job summary

New Zealand Health Group – Christchurch invites applications for Casual Intensive Support Worker to provide flexible, short-notice support across the Canterbury region, including Rangiora, within our Intensive Support Services. You will work in multidisciplinary teams to help Tamariki, Rangatahi and Pakeke achieve greater independence and wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Be available to provide support at short notice when staffing cover is required across services.
  • Work across a variety of services throughout Canterbury as needed.
  • Support people to achieve their personal goals and aspirations.
  • Promote health, safety, wellbeing, and positive outcomes.
  • Support attendance at school, education, training, employment and community activities where appropriate.
  • Encourage participation in whānau, cultural, recreational, and community connections.
  • Implement Positive Behaviour Support strategies and individual support plans.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide consistent and high-quality support.
  • Assist people to develop daily living skills, social skills, confidence, and independence.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to ongoing planning and reviews.

Intensive Services Support Worker - Casual

At NZCL, our Intensive Support Services (ISS) provide highly individualised residential support for tamariki, rangatahi, and pakeke (adults) with complex support needs. We focus on creating safe, structured, and supportive home environments where people can build independence, develop life skills, strengthen relationships, and achieve meaningful outcomes.

Our approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and grounded in Positive Behaviour Support. We work alongside whānau, guardians, healthcare professionals, educators, and other key stakeholders to ensure consistent, high-quality care and support.

We are currently seeking Casual Support Workers to join our Intensive Support Services team. This role is designed to provide cover for planned and unplanned absences, including sick leave, annual leave, training, and periods of increased support needs across our services.

Successful applicants must be flexible, responsive, and willing to work at short notice. While opportunities may be available across the wider Canterbury region, applicants must be willing and able to work regularly in Rangiora, as this is a core service location.

As part of ISS, you will work within a multidisciplinary team supporting people with complex behavioural, health, social, disability, and developmental needs to achieve greater independence, wellbeing, and quality of life.

As a Casual Support Worker, you will support tamariki, rangatahi, and pakeke accessing our Intensive Support Services to live meaningful and fulfilling lives while developing greater independence and self-determination.

You will:

  • Be available to provide support at short notice when staffing cover is required

  • Understanding of, or willing to learn, trauma-informed practice
  • Understanding of, or willing to learn, Positive Behaviour Support principles
  • Resilient, calm, and confident when working alongside complex behaviours and challenging situations
  • Strong communicators and effective team players
  • Culturally responsive and committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles
  • Hold a Full NZ Driver Licence
