Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Industrial Engineer specializing in manufacturing automation for an on-site role in Queenstown, SA. You will design, implement, and optimize automated systems to boost production efficiency, throughput, and quality.

You will evaluate and deploy robotic systems, PLCs, HMIs, and related automation technologies, working with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and sustained performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial engineering with a strong focus on manufacturing automation.
• Proven experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting automated manufacturing systems.
• Proficiency with PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI development, and robotic systems (e.g., FANUC, KUKA).
• Understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical principles related to automation.
• Experience with CAD software for designing automation layouts and components.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
• Excellent project management and communication skills.
• Ability to work on-site in Queenstown, Eastern Cape.
• Knowledge of Industry 4.0 concepts and related technologies is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Identify automation opportunities within manufacturing processes and build business cases.
• Design, specify, and implement automated systems including robotics, conveyors, PLCs, HMIs, and vision systems.
• Develop functional specifications for automation equipment and software.
• Collaborate with engineering, production, and maintenance for system integration.
• Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, and robotic controllers as needed.
• Troubleshoot automated production lines to minimize downtime.
• Conduct feasibility studies and pilot tests for new concepts.
• Deliver training to maintenance and operations staff on automation.
• Establish performance metrics and monitor effectiveness of automated processes.
• Stay current with advancements in automation technology.
