Job summary
Transpower is seeking a Protection & Automation Project Engineer to contribute across scoping, design reviews and commissioning on major grid projects in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.
You will work with engineering, delivery and operations teams to deliver safe, reliable transmission by refining design standards, supporting technical workstreams and applying innovative solutions. A 3-year HV background and an electrical engineering degree are preferred.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years' HV Protection & Automation design, settings, or commissioning experience.
- Practical understanding of transmission assets and reliable grid operation.
- Electrical or power engineering degree (Washington Accord or equivalent).
Responsibilities
- Scoping, reviewing and supporting Protection & Automation work from concept through to commissioning.
- Investigating and evaluating protection schemes under various grid configurations and power flows.
- Collaborate with project managers, consultants and internal stakeholders to define practical solutions.
- Review design deliverables, contribute to scopes, cost estimates and business cases.
- Support updates to protection settings, guidance and continuous improvement initiatives.
