Job summary

New Zealand Customs Service | Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa is seeking an experienced HRIS and Payroll Advisor to deliver accurate, timely payroll services in a complex environment. You’ll manage end-to-end payroll processing, maintain data, and ensure timesheets are processed on time while providing high-quality payroll advice.

This permanent, full-time role offers hybrid working with up to two days from home per week, and locations at Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience of computerised payroll processing (preferably PayGlobal) and knowledge of best practice payroll processes and operations.
• Experience in providing HRIS advice and support to managers and awareness of how their role contributes to outcomes.
• Ability to apply Holidays Act, Income Tax Act, and ACC and related policy.
• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders and managers.
• Good organisational skills with strong attention to detail.

We’re looking for an experienced HRIS and payroll professional to join our team as HRIS and Payroll Advisor. If you enjoy working in a complex environment, solving problems and supporting people through quality payroll services, we’d love to hear from you. This is a permanent, full-time role based at one of our Customhouse locations in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.

About This Role…

In this role, you’ll report to the Team Leader HRIS Payroll and Reporting and play an important part in delivering accurate, timely and reliable payroll services across Customs. You’ll manage end-to-end payroll processing, maintain payroll data, and ensure timesheets are processed accurately and on time. Working in a complex rostered environment, you’ll be part of a supportive team that takes pride in providing trusted payroll advice and high-quality service to the business.

To be successful as HRIS and Payroll Advisor, we’d expect you to have…

• 2+ years’ experience of computerised payroll processing (preferably PayGlobal) and knowledge of best practice payroll processes and operations.
• Experience in providing HRIS advice and support to managers, and an awareness of how their role contributes to an organisation achieving its outcomes.
• Ability to apply relevant legislation and organisational policy e.g Holidays Act, Income Tax Act, and ACC.
• Ability to build and maintain effective internal and external relationships with key stakeholders and managers.
• Good organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
• Strong problem-solving skills including the ability to identify problems, mitigate risks and implement innovative solutions.
• Sound interpersonal and communication skills.
• Intermediate level experience with Excel and Word.

To work for Customs, you must be able to meet the following requirements:

• Be a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident
• Residing in New Zealand at the time of application
• Have resided continuously in New Zealand for the last five years. Any exceptions to this will need to be discussed with recruitment to assess whether you will still be eligible to meet the Organisation's Security Clearance application criteria).
