We are looking for a HR Advisor who is a generalist to provide a full range of advice to support Managers, Team Leaders and employees in all areas of Human Resources. This is a unique role as a sole HR Advisor for the company but with an excellent management team to support you.

A bit about us

Founded in 1987, we’ve been serving the needs of the network communications industry for over 30 years. Our solutions-based philosophy of producing products that deliver value to our customers, together with high-quality service and support, has resulted in an extensive worldwide customer presence.

Here in Christchurch, we’re the largest research and development facility for the Allied Telesis Group, developing market-leading offerings in Software Defined Networking, and Network Security.

About the Role

As our HR Advisor, you'll be the trusted HR partner for managers, team leaders and employees across the organisation. This is a broad, hands-on generalist role where you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact across the entire employee lifecycle.

Reporting directly to the leadership team, you will provide practical, people-focused advice and support on a wide range of HR matters, helping to foster a positive workplace culture and ensure best-practice people management.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing timely and pragmatic HR advice to managers and employees on policies, procedures and employment-related matters.
  • Supporting managers with performance management, employee relations, investigations and conflict resolution.
  • Managing end-to-end recruitment processes, from advertising and candidate coordination through to offers, onboarding and induction.
  • Coordinating the performance review process and supporting managers to develop high-performing teams.
  • Ensuring employee records, employment agreements and HR documentation are accurate, compliant and up to date.
  • Assisting with payroll administration in partnership with the Finance Manager and external payroll provider.
  • Reviewing, developing and maintaining HR policies, procedures and people-related initiatives.
  • Coordinating training and development activities and supporting employee engagement programmes.
  • Contributing to Health & Safety initiatives and participating in the Health & Safety Committee.
  • Identifying opportunities to continuously improve HR processes, systems and employee experience.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, values autonomy, and is confident balancing both strategic thinking and day-to-day operational HR responsibilities.

Your Skills and Experience

We're looking for an experienced HR professional who enjoys building trusted relationships and thrives in a collaborative environment. You'll be someone who can confidently work independently while remaining approachable, practical and solutions focused.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Proven experience in a broad HR Generalist or HR Advisor role.
  • Sound knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and HR best practice.
  • Experience providing advice and support across recruitment, employee relations, performance management and HR administration.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence, coach and support managers at all levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters professionally and confidentially.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with a genuine desire to help others succeed.
  • Strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Confidence working autonomously and taking ownership of the HR function.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with the initiative to identify opportunities and implement practical solutions.
  • Payroll experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

Most importantly, you'll bring a positive attitude, a healthy sense of humour, and a genuine passion for supporting people and creating a great workplace culture.

What’s in it for you?

In return for your expertise, energy and commitment, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits including:

  • Health insurance for you and your family
  • Your birthday off – go and celebrate you!
  • Use of our gym, sauna, spa and 22m indoor swimming pool
