Job summary

Papakura High School in Auckland is seeking an energetic Certificated teacher for Secondary (Years 7–15) / wharekura. This Ministry-funded role runs to the end of 2026 with potential continuation into 2027.

The successful candidate will design engaging, relevant lessons, support disengaged students through homeroom routines, and contribute to a high-equity, culturally responsive learning community for Māori and Pasifika learners. A collaborative team and space to innovate are offered.

Qualifications

  • Must be a registered NZ teacher with current certification.
  • Experience in secondary/Junior settings and high-equity environments preferred.
  • Ability to support disengaged learners through homeroom routines.

Responsibilities

Secondary (Years 7–15) / wharekura, Certificated teacher

This position is Ministry funded until the end of 2026 with the possibility of continuation in 2027.

Are you an energetic passionate teacher who enjoys working with juniors, designing engaging, relevant lessons, and bringing creativity and structure to the classroom?

Experience as a primary/intermediate school teacher would be an advantage for the position.

Experience in a high-equity index kura or similar setting is a requirement for the position.

We are looking for someone special to support students who have been disengaged with formal education and need the routine offered by a homeroom situation to get them used to the demands of a secondary school.

The terms and conditions, including base salary, for this position is set by the Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement. The base salary for trained and registered teachers will range from $66k to $105k, depending on applicant’s qualifications and experience. Individuals actual base salary will be established by a salary assessment once a role is confirmed.
