Job summary

Basketball New Zealand in Wellington seeks a High Performance Programme Manager for 5x5 to lead senior and pathway programmes, including the Tall Blacks and Tall Ferns. You will coordinate campaigns across national teams and support camps, travel, and budgets.

You will work closely with athletes, coaches, staff and international partners to ensure performance excellence, planning and continuous improvement across the programme.

Responsibilities

• Oversee planning, coordination and delivery of senior and pathway 5x5 programmes (Tall Blacks, Tall Ferns, age-grade teams).
• Support Olympic qualification campaigns, World Cups, Asia Cups, tours and development camps.
• Coordinate domestic and international 5x5 campaigns and schedules.
• Manage travel, logistics, budgets, and operational requirements.
• Support implementation of the High Performance Plan 2028+.
• Build and maintain relationships with athletes, coaches, staff, clubs, agents and FIBA.
• Support athlete wellbeing and performance environments across camps and tournaments.
• Contribute to budget management and financial reporting across programmes.
• Collaborate with the wider High Performance team to deliver pathway outcomes.

Basketball is a truly global sport. Our athletes compete professionally throughout New Zealand, Australia, Europe, Asia and North America. As we continue to implement our High Performance Plan 2028+, we are seeking a highly capable and motivated professional to join our team as High Performance Programme Manager for 5x5 basketball. This role is critical to the successful delivery of our national team programmes and helping New Zealand basketball compete on the world stage.

The Opportunity

• Reporting to the General Manager of High Performance, the High Performance Programme Manager - 5x5 will oversee the planning, coordination and delivery of Basketball New Zealand's senior and pathway 5x5 programmes, including the Tall Blacks, 2degrees Tall Ferns and age grade national teams.

• The role supports campaigns that span Olympic qualification, FIBA World Cups, Asia Cups, international tours and national development camps. It requires someone who thrives in a fast moving environment, can manage multiple priorities simultaneously and is passionate about creating the conditions that allow athletes and coaches to perform at their best.

What You'll Be Responsible For

• Coordinating the planning and delivery of domestic and international 5x5 campaigns.

• Managing complex travel, logistics, budgets and operational requirements.

• Supporting implementation of Basketball New Zealand's High Performance Plan 2028+.

• Building and maintaining strong relationships with athletes, coaches, support staff, agents, clubs, professional franchises, FIBA and other stakeholders.

• Supporting athlete wellbeing and performance environments across remote, camp and tournament settings.

• Contributing to continuous improvement, review processes and future campaign planning.

• Supporting financial planning, reporting and budget management across programmes.

• Working collaboratively across the wider BBNZ High Performance team to deliver aligned pathway outcomes.

• This role is much more than administration. It sits at the heart of international high performance sport and requires someone who can operate confidently in environments where plans change quickly, information is often incomplete and performance matters.

Experience and Qualifications

• Ideally, you will bring:

• A qualification in sport management, business, event management or a related field.

• Experience working within high performance sport, national sporting organisations, professional sport, event delivery or complex stakeholder environments.

• Strong organisational and project management experience.

• Budget planning and financial reporting capability.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Experience working across diverse stakeholder groups.

Location

• Wellington is preferred, but not essential. Applicants based elsewhere in New Zealand will be considered, provided they can effectively fulfil the requirements of the role and travel as needed.

• Domestic and international travel will be required throughout the year.
