Job summary

Canstaff is recruiting a Senior Heating Engineer in Queenstown to design, install, commission and fault-find heating and ventilation systems for premium residential and commercial projects across the Southern Lakes region.

You will read drawings, specify systems, lead on-site teams and ensure NZ building codes, safety and energy standards are met. A minimum of 3+ years NZ heating/HVAC experience and EST (EWRB) licence are preferred; strong communication and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years NZ experience in heating/HVAC.
• EST licence (EWRB) preferred or required.
• Experience with design, installation, and fault-finding on heating systems.

Responsibilities

Our client, a respected small owner-operated company based in Queenstown, is known for delivering premium commercial and high-end residential projects across the Southern Lakes. With demand growing, they are now seeking an experienced Heating Engineer (Senior HVAC Technician) to join their team.

This is a senior-level role suited to someone who can not only install systems but also design, diagnose, lead, and ensure absolute compliance and performance.

The Role:

You’ll be responsible for the design, installation, commissioning, servicing, and fault-finding of heating and ventilation systems across a variety of residential and commercial sites including architecturally designed homes and complex commercial builds.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and specifying heating systems to suit building requirements
• Installing, servicing, and repairing heat pumps, boilers, radiators, and ventilation systems
• Advanced fault diagnostics and system troubleshooting
• Ensuring compliance with NZ building codes, safety, and energy efficiency standards
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings and plans
• Advising clients on energy-efficient and cost-effective system solutions
• Maintaining high documentation and reporting standards

What We’re Looking For:

• Minimum 3+ years NZ experience in heating/HVAC
• Electrical Service Technician (EST) Licence (EWRB) – preferred/required
• Strong background in both commercial and high-end residential projects
• High-level diagnostic and problem-solving skills
• Sound knowledge of NZ compliance and safety standards
• Full, clean NZ driver’s licence
• Ability to work independently and provide leadership on-site
• Professional communication skills and pride in workmanship
